Like all great things, Rustin Ice Hockey originated as one simple idea. As legend has it, the idea evolved on Greg Dugan’s back porch during a conversation with the club’s co-founding father Nick Russo. Little did they know that their informal discussion would create nearly two decades of success and place a national spotlight on West Chester’s Ice Hockey Community.
In 2005 Coaches Russo and Dugan enrolled Bayard Rustin’s first group of middle school players in Ice line’s Spring League program. Coach Russo described the club’s first Spring season in his final end-of-season review. From that first team emerged an organization that would go on to win a USA Hockey National Title, 7 Pennsylvania Ice Hockey State Championships, and 9 Eastern-PA Flyers Cups.
But that’s just the beginning… The heart, character, and discipline displayed by Rustin Ice Hockey’s players, coaches, club officials, volunteers and parents is second to none and ensures on-ice and off-ice success for many years to come.
